#15. The Fashion of Architecture
Design and architecture have a long-established relationship with fashion and luxury retail, often collaborating to evolve and compliment each other. As luxury fashion has expanded beyond the product itself, stores often become art exhibits, striving to represent the style and ethos of the brand beyond their material products. Having worked extensively over the years with leading luxury fashion brands, Black Factory Studio deeply understands the importance of the relationship between clothes and the spaces they inhabit.
Louis Vuitton is a great example of a brand that embodies its internal ethos, outwardly. Their orientation towards enhancing the beauty of the world and fashion around them is seen across their stores and products, often through limited edition collaborations with artists. These collaborations regularly stand alongside Vuitton’s own products in store and give the customer the individual experience of moving through an exhibition of fashion and design when shopping.
Looking specifically towards the Louis Vuitton flagship store on New Bond Street, the stunningly creative example of how architecture and design has been utilised to elevate their products beyond the ordinary scope. The shop’s interior presents more like a museum of fashion than a commercial space, with the brand’s product status being raised well above the average store, encouraging the customer to sink into the luxury feeling of the brand.
Department stores such as Harrods are also key when discussing the relationship between architecture and fashion, as although it remains one of the most famous buildings in London, the brands housed inside hold equal weight. The concessions for brands such as Dior and Balenciaga are both great examples of how, whilst respecting their historic setting, they are still able to showcase their independent character and products through clean, striking designs.
Ultimately this orientation towards creating beautiful spaces to uplift luxurious products is directly representative of our own ethos here at Black Factory Studio, to encourage and support our clients to create the most striking space possible. We love to create spaces that exhibit brands in the most effective way possible. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email, or simply fill out the enquires form on our website.
